A Texas family is pleading for prayers and support after their 14-year-old son was left with devastating brain injuries in a shocking middle school attack.
According to his parents, Lukas Hardeman was sitting in the cafeteria at his school on August 21 when he made a joke to another student. That student allegedly picked him up and body slammed him. Lukas’ head struck both a stool attached to the cafeteria table and the floor, causing multiple brain bleeds and severe swelling.
His mother described the nightmare in the family’s GoFundMe: “Doctors had to remove two parts of his skull to relieve the pressure and bleeding, and Lukas is now in the ICU as we wait for more updates on his condition.”
Lukas, who loves drawing, gaming, and spending time with his siblings, now faces a long recovery. His father, Michael, said Lukas has more than 60 staples in his head and is struggling both physically and emotionally. “He’s embarrassed. He is hurt. He is struggling. But I hope when he sees … that he has a lot of family behind him.”
The Hardeman family says the trauma has turned their lives upside down. They’ve had to leave home, miss work, and stay in hotels in Dallas to remain close to their son. “The medical bills, travel costs, and future doctor visits are overwhelming, and we’re facing many unexpected expenses as Lukas begins his long road to recovery,” his mother wrote.

The shocking incident has also shaken Kilgore ISD, where parents have demanded stronger safety measures after three ambulance calls in just one week. The district has pledged to make student safety a priority but has declined to comment on Lukas’ specific case.
For now, Lukas’ family is leaning on faith, community support, and hope. “My son is only alive today because of Jesus,” his father said. “We’re just taking it day by day.”
