In Fort Worth, a man has been sentenced to death for the brutal murder of Marissa Grimes, a 26-year-old mother of two whose life ended in unthinkable violence.

Grimes vanished in February 2022. A week later, officers searching O’Steen’s Fort Worth home made a gruesome discovery, her body stuffed into a shallow grave beneath the house, while O’Steen continued living above her for ten days.

A TRAIL OF VIOLENCE

This horror didn’t come out of nowhere. Just weeks earlier, O’Steen had been arrested for holding Grimes captive in his home. She managed to escape only by secretly texting her father for help. Police pulled her out, but O’Steen quickly bonded out of jail, furious and unrepentant.

Court documents say he vowed revenge. He told people he wanted the charges dropped, the ankle monitor gone, and that he was going to kill her.

HER FINAL GOODBYE

On February 12, Grimes was driving a U-Haul, preparing to move for a fresh start. But she stopped at O’Steen’s house one last time. A neighbor later recalled watching him wave a gun at her.

That was the last time her family ever saw her alive. Her U-Haul was later found abandoned just a mile away.

UNSPEAKABLE BRUTALITY

The medical examiner described a scene of torture. Grimes had broken bones, two black eyes, deep cuts, and bruises across her body. Her hair had been hacked unevenly. She was beaten to death, with blunt force trauma to the head.

The jury needed little convincing. O’Steen’s rage, his threats, and his actions told the story, and on September 22, they sentenced him to death.
