Jeep Weekend on Bolivar Peninsula has been a blast for Jeep lovers, but in recent years, it’s also sparked violence, arrests, and chaos. With the event growing bigger each year, local officials have decided it’s time to step in and bring some order to the madness.

This year, new rules are being enforced to help calm the chaos.

What Is Jeep Weekend?

Jeep Weekend is an annual event where Jeep owners from all over gather at Crystal Beach to celebrate spring with off-roading and beach fun. The event typically draws up to 10,000 people, with some arriving as early as the Thursday before the main event.

However, past events have seen violent incidents and overcrowding, prompting local authorities to introduce stricter regulations.

The New Rules

Galveston County Sheriff Jimmy Fullen shared a list of rules that will be enforced this year:

  • No parking or unloading trailers on the beach.
  • No golf carts, ATVs, or dirt bikes on the beach.
  • No mass gatherings—spread out, folks!
  • No glass containers or littering.
  • Speed limit is 15 mph on the beach.
  • Pets must be leashed.
  • No bonfires.

Why the Change?

Some of the attendees defend the Jeep community, "The Jeep community is peaceful," said Kendra Johnson. However, she does admit that as more younger people begin to participate, it's creating conflict.

"You need to follow our rules and you need to obey the law, and if you choose not to do either one of those, we will find a place for you in the Galveston County jail," said Sheriff Fullen a video.
