Local Blood Supply at Critical Levels in Victoria
Someone in Victoria will need blood this week, and they might not get it.
People receive blood transfusions for many different situations, from car accidents to surgery, and even while fighting cancer. However, right now, there may not be enough in the Crossroads.
Levels of Blood Donation Needs

Blood donation needs can typically range from:
- Critical/Emergency Need
- Urgent/Severe Shortage
- Regular/Constant Need
Right now, bloody supply needs are at a critical level. Some blood types are currently so low, that they only have enough for a one-day supply.
“We’re in a critical situation...this shortage is very concerning for both emergencies and scheduled treatments.” Joby Stortz, account manager with South Texas Blood & Tissue, explained.
Currently, O-positive and O-negative blood are the most critically needed.

“We currently have less than a one-day supply of O-positive and O-negative blood on hand, and less than a three-day supply of all other blood types,” Stortz said.
DeTar Healthcare System is partnering with South Texas Blood & Tissue to host a community blood drive on Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The blood drive will take place in DeTar’s Education Classroom in the MediCenter, 506 E. San Antonio Street, located on the campus of DeTar Hospital Navarro in Victoria.
Martha Young , Laboratory Clinical Director at DeTar Healthcare System, is encouraging everyone to pitch in, “We are encouraging anyone who is willing and able to take a short amount of time from their day to donate.”
Walk-ins are welcome, but advance registration is encouraged. You can schedule your donation at: https://donor.southtexasblood.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/152709
Even if you are unable to physically donate, please share information on social media to help get the word out to as many people as possible.
