Watch: Close-Up Video of Strong Tornado in West Texas

A storm chaser got up close and personal with a large tornado in Palo Duro Canyon in Texas. 

It takes guts to chase tornadoes. But if you know what you’re doing and are an adrenaline junkie, there’s probably no bigger rush than witnessing a tornado from a safe distance. The key here being to know what you’re doing. 

Even experienced storm chasers have lost their lives while chasing tornadoes. Sure, you know all about tornadoes if you grow up in this part of the country. But I would highly recommend against chasing without proper equipment and training.

Reed Timmer, PhD knows a little something about chasing. According to his page on X, he is an “Extreme meteorologist, inventor and storm chaser intercepting the most powerful storms on the planet.” 

He also has a vehicle that looks like it could withstand a nuclear blast. And that vehicle was put to the test yesterday, so much so that he blew the engine in it. 

I have to say that I admire his enthusiasm. He sounds like a kid on a roller coaster at Six Flags. It’s clear that he loves what he does. And I’m so grateful for people like him that help keep the rest of us safe.
