Gas Station Food Ranking Shocks Texas Fans of Buc-ee’s

A recent ranking of gas stations with the best food is bound to leave many Texans scratching their heads.

A Gas Station Food Ranking That Left Texans Surprised

I don’t know what it is about gas station food, but I love it. It probably has to do with me growing up in Vernon, Texas – a small town of about 12,000 people that had four Allsup’s for many years. In case you’re not in the know, their burritos are legendary. In fact, I grabbed one from an Allsup’s on the way to watch the Rangers play just last Sunday.

As legendary as Allsup’s burritos are, Buc-ee's has been receiving a ton of national attention in recent years as its footprint spreads across the country. While many people heap praise on Buc-ee's for their unique merchandise, snacks, and clean bathrooms (among other things), their food is widely considered to be some of the best you’ll get at a gas station.

That’s why I was surprised to see Buc-ee's was ranked twelfth overall in Chowhound’s ranking of the 15 Gas Station Chains with the Best Food, According to Reviews. Allsup’s / Yesway made the list as well, coming in at number 15.

Admittedly, I haven’t tried many of the places that were ranked ahead of Buc-ee's and Allsup’s. But I will say – I've had food from several of the locations ranked ahead of both, and while I won’t mention any names, none of them come close to either in my opinion.
