As we prepare to embark on these holiday journeys, it's a good time to be reminded to drive safely and be aware. A new study ranks Texas pretty high on the list of the riskiest drivers in the country.

The new study, conducted by Coast, ranked each state according to the risky behaviors engaged in by drivers. According to their findings, Texas ranks 15th in the nation for riskiest drivers. That's not something to be proud of.

According to the results of their study, Texas drivers drive 7 mph over the speed limit in town on average. On the highway, Texas drivers drive roughly 12 mph over the speed limit on average. If the check engine light comes on, Texas drivers tend to give it roughly another 100 miles before checking things out.

The most common form of risky behavior that drivers engage in is, surprisingly, speeding. About 50% of the drivers in the study were found to speed. Texting while driving, which I thought would be the number one risky behavior, was something that only 28% of the drivers in the study were found to engage in. It would be nice if that was a sign of a change in the amount of people texting while driving.

As we get closer to the holiday season and the stress that it brings, take a breath and drive safely. There's going to be a lot of people on the roads, and we all want to get where we're going safe and sound.
