What is Early Head Start?

Early Head Start is celebrating its 25th year serving eligible pregnant mothers and children ages 0-35 months.

According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, "EHS programs are designed to nurture healthy attachments between parent and child (and child and caregiver). Services encompass the full range of a family's needs from pregnancy through a child's third birthday" and include family-centered services for low-income families with very young children.

One of the most common questions asked is if parents who exceed the eligibility guidelines still enroll their children in the Head Start and Early Head Start programs?

Head Start programs may enroll up to 10% of children from families that have incomes above the Poverty Guidelines. Programs may also serve up to an additional 35% of children from families whose incomes are above the Poverty Guidelines.
