An audience participation movie and discussion series featuring three films kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts. The Leo J. Welder Center Cinema Club will provide audience members with thought-provoking introductions by an informed moderator, a film viewing and participation in a discussion about the movie.

One Cinema Club film event will be offered each month for three consecutive months - Wednesday, Oct. 22 and Nov. 5. Selections are varied and include a 2013 festival-acclaimed thriller, a 2014 major blockbuster loaded with A-list stars and a ground-breaking Oscar award-winning classic from 1985.

Moderators for the fall 2014 Cinema Club series are Joe Friar, a member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association and Houston Film Critics Society; Eric Ray, curator at the Museum of the Coastal Bend and VC adjunct history instructor and Lisa DeVries, VC associate English professor. Each will offer their unique viewpoint on a film, expounding on qualities such as story line, timing and suspense, historical perspective and differences between film and book.

Sue Prudhomme, Victoria College's director of cultural affairs, organized the Cinema Club offerings as a result of community members' movie interests collected through surveys and town hall meetings. "A film and discussion series was one of the most requested activities," Prudhomme told the Victoria Advocate.

A complete schedule of Cinema Club movies can be found at WelderCenter.org. Tickets are $5 per movie. Discounted rates are available when a club package of all three films is purchased. All tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door. Tickets for the movies may be purchased at the Welder Center Box Office by calling 361-570-TKTS or online at WelderCenter.org.

The Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts is located at 214 N. Main St. in historic downtown Victoria. For more information on the Leo J. Welder Center cinema offerings, contact Prudhomme at 361- 582-2436 or email Sue.Prudhomme@VictoriaCollege.edu.
