Let's add one to the list. Eggs are trending as the latest item being confiscated at the Texas/Mexico Border. Over the past month, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in Texas have stopped at least 90 individuals from smuggling eggs into the country from Mexico.

According to a press release, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, or CBP, specialists in the El Paso, Texas area have issued 16 civil penalties totaling almost $4,000 linked to the attempted smuggling of prohibited products such as raw eggs.

Why is it illegal to take eggs over the Texas/Mexico border?

Fresh eggs, raw chicken, unprocessed avian products and live birds are prohibited from entering into the U.S. Eggs specifically are prohibited due to health concerns regarding highly pathogenic Avian Influenza or bird flu.

The Texas/Mexico border sees various other food confiscations.

Last year, CBP had a massive bust of bologna, exactly 748 pounds. Mexican bologna is a prohibited product in America because it is made from pork and has the potential for introducing foreign animal diseases to the U.S. pork industry.

Smugglers also have creative ways of hiding smuggled items to get over Texas/Mexico border.
