A home invasion on the north side of town turned deadly after the suspect shot the victim in the face with a rifle, while a woman and child hid in a closet.

San Antonio Police officers responded to the 1100 block of Patricia Drive, near Blanco Road and West Avenue, around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a shooting in progress.

When officers arrived, they found the victim collapsed outside of the apartment in the breezeway near the stairs, with a gunshot wound. The man died shortly afterward.

Police say the suspect forced himself inside the front door then fired at the man, point-blank with a rifle in the face, then drove off. Officers described this as a gruesome scene.
