As COVID-19 reeks havoc on our daily lives there are some in our community who are especially affected. According to Communities in School of the Golden Crescent, Lead Site Coordinator, Alana Sharp, students in the CIS program, Communities in Schools of the Golden Crescent are in dire straights.

Communities in Schools of the Golden Crescent works with at-risk students in Victoria and surrounding counties. Their mission is to "build relationships that empower students to stay in school and succeed in life."

"CIS is in desperate need of emergency supplies and services in the Golden Crescent Area. Our 860 at-risk youth need basic school supplies to work remotely." Alana says.

Furthermore, many CIS students in Bloomington do not have access to internet to communicate with their teachers.

" We are also in desperate need of Spanish translators for our Spanish speaking families as well as Spanish speaking tutors for our upper division core classes."

Alana offers additionally that "Many families and students with varying mental health issues will need additional support especially from LPC's who might agree to teleconference with students."

CIS appreciates anything our local communities and businesses who are willing to help the children most at risk of being unable to succeed during the COVID-19 crisis.
