Charles Esten Calls International ‘Nashville’ Tour a ‘Bucket List Moment’
When Season 5 of Nashville wraps in June of 2017, it won’t be the last time you see the show’s stars on stage. For the second year in a row, stars Charles Esten, Clare Bowen, Chris Carmack, Jonathan Jackson and Sam Palladio are all heading across the pond for the international 2017 Nashville Tour.
Esten says that the 2016 tour was a “bucket list moment” that he thought he’d only get to do once, and that fans can expect to hear their favorite songs from the show, but also original ones from the cast.
“Because of social media, people know us as more than our characters,” he says. “They know me from my music as well, so it’s a wonderful combination of that and they get to see us on stage together. It’s quite a party and we’re real lucky to get to do it.”
He reveals that one of his favorite moments from the 2016 excursion was in Dublin, Ireland, performing the show’s signature song that the audience knew every word to. “Standing on the stage, arm and arm, and watching this unbelievable Dublin audience sing back ‘A Life That’s Good’ to us as we’re singing it, they sort of took over with all their lights shining off their phones,” Esten describes. “It was, I mean hairs standing up on your arm kind of exciting and that we get to go back blows my mind.”
It’s safe to say that the actor, who plays Deacon Claybourne, will perform some of the songs he’s released during Every Single Friday, where the star releases a new track he wrote each week. “For me, being in Nashville reinvigorated my writing and certainly my recording,” he admits, adding that it’s allowed him to perform at such historic venues as the Grand Ole Opry and Ryman auditorium and collaborate with some of Nashville’s most sought-after songwriters.
He says that the songs he writes cover a wide spectrum of topics and sounds. “My music is fairly eclectic, it’s all in the country genre, but some of them are real sad, quiet, just acoustic guitar and other ones are those country ones that can really rock,” the musician explains. “I love a good country song and do my very best to write them.”
The cast of Nashville heads to the U.K. for the tour that kicks off June 9 in Birmingham, England and concludes on June 20 in Ireland.
