Celebrating Medical Laboratory Professionals Week

DeTar Healthcare System is proud to celebrate Medical Laboratory Professionals Week from April 20-26, 2025, recognizing the essential contributions of clinical laboratory personnel in patient care and medical diagnostics.

Now in its 50th year, Medical Laboratory Professionals Week serves as a national observance to raise awareness about the vital role laboratory professionals play in healthcare. Established in 1975 as National Medical Laboratory Week, this annual celebration is organized by a collaborative committee of 18 national clinical laboratory organizations, including the ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists).

Martha Young, BSMT(ASCP)SH, DeTar Laboratory Clinical Director, emphasizes the importance of this profession: "Lab professionals make it possible for doctors to accurately diagnose and treat diseases, from leukemia to COVID-19 and everything in between. Without laboratory testing, as we say, 'they are just guessing.' This week is a chance to highlight our contributions and the impact we make in patient care every day."

In recognition of this significant week, Victoria Mayor Duane Crocker officially proclaimed April 20-26, 2025, as Medical Laboratory Professionals Week at the April 15, 2025 City of Victoria Council Meeting.

This proclamation underscores the critical work of laboratory professionals in Victoria and surrounding communities. DeTar Healthcare System encourages the public to take a moment this week to acknowledge the dedication and expertise of laboratory professionals, who work behind the scenes to ensure accurate diagnoses and improve patient outcomes.
