BEWARE: Scamming is On The Rise in the Crossroads
I personally feel like scamming never stops. However, the Victoria Police Department is seeing a spike in financial fraud. It's the same story, callers are posing as banks, IRS, and even the police. You are advised that you owe money, you information is compromised, or a loved on is in trouble.
Don't ever be rushed into making a decision.
It is very important that you are not rushed into making a decision from these calls. Here are some red flags that you have received a scam call.
- If the "IRS" calls demanding money it's a scam. The IRS only contacts by mail and not by phone.
- Gift cards are not a form of payment for any legitimate debt.
- A text asking to pay for tolls is a scam
- Law enforcement will never call about another persons warrant or to collect money
- Crypto payments will never be asked by any reputable company
Please share this information with our Senior Citizens I have read so many heartbreaking stories about Seniors losing their life savings to scammers. The best advice is to just ignore numbers that you don't know or unknown calls. Scammers use fear and pressure to keep you on the line. Hang up and verify independently.
That one time a scammer called a Victoria Police officer
Here is a lookback to when a scammer made a call to a Victoria Police Officer thanks to TikTok. This video has a twist, and a third person was added to the call.
