Ashley McBryde Has Been Practicing Her Whole Life for a CMA Awards Win

Ashley McBryde is qualified to win the 2019 CMA Award for New Artist of the Year, and not just because of her musical talents and rapidly growing fanbase. She has spent hours practicing the literal trophy-accepting part of the awards show process, too.

In a new video leading up to the CMA Awards ceremony, which is set to take place on Wednesday (Nov. 13), McBryde remembers her early dreams of taking home trophies. "I used to stand with different items of different sizes in my mirror and practice speeches," she explains. "I have literally been practicing for the CMA Awards since I was a kid." McBryde has gotten to put all that trophy-accepting expertise to good use lately. She is the reigning ACM New Female Vocalist of the Year, and was recently named CMT's 2019 Breakout Artist of the Year. Since releasing her 2018 major-label debut, Girl Going Nowhere, McBryde has been met with a slew of accolades and new artist honors.

The rising singer says that country music has been an important part of her life for as long as she can remember. "I grew up on a cattle farm, and that's what we listened to. Country and bluegrass," she adds. "Adding my voice to country music today -- there were so many voices that I could look to when I was growing up for inspiration, for strength. We get the chance to give that back now."

The 2019 CMA Awards are scheduled to air on ABC on Nov. 13, at 8PM ET; the ceremony will take place live at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton and Carrie Underwood will co-host the event, which will also be highlighting some of country music's female artists.
