Q: One hundred years ago, the tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel tower. What building, when constructed in 1929, became the tallest building in the world, succeeding the Eiffel tower? 

A: A: The Chrysler building in New York City!  The structure was the world's tallest building for 11 months before it was surpassed by the Empire State Building inn 1931.
