We said we would never forget... and we haven't. The public is invited to participate in a 9/11 Remembrance Program on Tuesday at DeLeon Plaza in downtown Victoria. The event is organized by the Victoria Police Department, Victoria Fire Department and the Victoria County Sheriff's Office.

Activities will begin at 8 a.m. with an honor guard presentation of colors. After an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, West High School choir members will perform the national anthem.

Co-masters of ceremony will be Assistant Fire Chief Tracy Fox and Deputy Police Chief Roy Boyd. Speakers are expected to include Mayor Will Armstrong, County Judge Don Pozzi, Sheriff T. Michael O'Connor, Police Chief J.J. Craig and Fire Chief Taner Drake. The program will conclude with a gun salute by the sheriff's office and police department, the last alarm by the fire department honor guard and the playing of taps.

The annual ceremony at Citizens Medical Center will not occur this year. "We want everyone to come together in one place for this special observance,"  hospital spokeswoman Shannon Spree told the Victoria Advocate.
