4th of July Fireworks Postponed for Victoria
Victoria Parks and Recreation has announced they've postponed its fireworks show scheduled as a drive-thru event at the Victoria Community Center on July 4th.
According to the official release which you can read in its entirety here, this was not an easy decision to make and Victoria Parks and Recreation hopes to reschedule the event at a later date offering, "The decision is a response to the high rate of community transmission of COVID-19 and new infections within Victoria County."
As you may know, yesterday, Victoria County saw its largest single-day spike of 146 new confirmed cases bringing the total in Victoria to 698 cases of COVID-19 active in our community.
"We understand that the Fourth of July fireworks show is an important tradition for many people in Victoria, but we had to make this decision in the interest of protecting public health,” said City Manager Jesús A. Garza. “We appreciate the community’s patience, and we look forward to celebrating with you again after the pandemic subsides.”
The City of Victoria's agreement with its vendor allows the event to be rescheduled within the next 180 days which could very well mean we have a fireworks show during the Christmas holiday season.
