31st Anniversary of the Passing of Selena Quintanilla Perez
It's been 31 years since the tragic passing of Selena Quintanilla-Perez, who was shot by Yolanda Saldivar at a Days Inn on Navigation in Corpus Christi. Like many, I remember my mom telling me the news, and she was crying. Victoria was lucky to have had Selena perform at multiple local venues before her passing.
Selena performed at all three major venues in Victoria.
In the 90s, Selena played at all three major venues in Victoria - The Bluebonnet Convention Center, Riverside Convention Center (Market Square), and the Sun Valley Ranch. It is possible she performed in Victoria more, so message us on our official station app if we missed a performance.

A photo of Selena performing at Riverside Convention Center.
Thanks to a listener-submitted photo from Raquel Vasquez, we have a shot of Selena performing at the Riverside Convention Center in 1993. At the time of this concert, her biggest hits were "La Carcacha" and "Como La Flor," and that was enough for headliner status and enough to sell out the Riverside.
In 1994, Selena released her career-changing album "Amor Prohibido" and took over the Tejano industry. This album became the one of the best-selling Latin albums in the U.S. This was when she was coined the Queen of Tejano music. Some refer to her as the Queen of Cumbia.
Selena's iconic show at the Astrodome also featured Emilio.
Selena performed her final show on February 26, 1995, at the Astrodome during Rodeo Houston. What some people don't know is that Emilio opened the show for her.
