Earthquakes happen frequently in Texas. However, a recent earthquake that registered near San Antonio was a little stronger than normal. On Saturday, September 20, a 3.3 magnitude earthquake was registered nearly 13 miles south of the town of Nixon, Texas, which is about an hour away from Victoria.

Texas has had over 400 earthquakes in the past 30 days.

According to earthquake.com, there have been over 400 earthquakes in Texas during the past 30 days. Most of the quakes register between 1.0-3.0, which usually go unnoticed by most. However, magnitude 3 to magnitude 4 earthquakes are usually felt, but often cause little to no damage.
Texas has had some big earth quakes though. Like the 5.3 magnitude that shook west Texas in 2022. Effects from this earthquake were felt in San Antonio.

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck in Texas earlier this year

Back in July, reports of shaking due to a 5.1 earthquake were reported near Snyder, Texas, and effects were felt around north Texas.

Texas has experienced powerful earthquakes.

The strongest earthquake ever recorded in Texas was a 6.4 magnitude that happened in August of 1931 near Valentine in Presidio County in west Texas. Significant damages were reported across multiple counties.
