The Victoria Chamber of Commerce will join the University of Houston-Victoria's Small Business Development Center to host the Governor's Small Business Forum on August 28th. Sponsored by the Texas governor's office, the Texas Workforce Commission and Workforce Solutions Golden Crescent, the event will focus on providing valuable information to minority and veteran business owners. "There are a lot of women-, minority- and veteran-owned businesses here," Chamber President and CEO Randy Vivian told the Victoria Advocate. "Those are the targeted groups we are really looking at." Vivian said the event will teach the necessary skills for success and give insight into development grants that will attract investors.

There will also be several speakers from the state, including Texas Workforce Commission Chairman Andres Alcantar and state Rep. Geanie Morrison.

Thursday is the last day to take advantage of the early bird special, with tickets at $30. After Thursday, general admission will be $50. Tickets include continental breakfast, lunch and a program booklet. The event will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., August 28th at the University of Houston-Victoria's Multipurpose Room, University Center Building, 3007 N. Ben Wilson Street.
