On Aug. 28, the Victoria County United Way kicks off its 2014 community campaign with its fourth annual Day of Caring. Volunteers will come together from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 3509 Swan Drive for a community service project at the Golden Crescent Habitat for Humanity and raise and frame two houses in one day. The day begins with a light breakfast and pep rally, says the Victoria Advocate. Then, volunteers will break out into work teams. There will be a community lunch to celebrate the work of the agency. During the lunch, Cynthia Stanley, executive director of Habitat for Humanity, will share how contributions have changed lives. Greg Westbrook, 2014 campaign chairman, will announce the United Way 2014 campaign goal and Pacesetter results, and Jennifer Yancey, board president, will also speak.

Volunteers will receive a Day of Caring T-shirt that includes sponsor logos. Individuals or teams wishing to participate in the event may sign up by calling Andrea Blumberg at 361-578-3561 or email ablumberg_unitedway@tisd.net.
