Willie Nelson may be approaching his 80th birthday, but he's still a spitfire with a whole lot to say -- and he's not afraid to speak his mind, especially when it's a cause he believes in. Nelson recently opened up on his views of the Supreme Court's consideration of gay rights and same-sex marriage, and he was his usual 'Shotgun Willie' self.

"I never had a problem with any of it. I've known straight and gay people all my life. I can't tell the difference," he tells Texas Monthly, explaining that his support of LGBT issues has been longstanding. "People are people where I came from."

He adds, "I never thought of marriage as something only for men and women. But I'd never marry a guy I didn't like."

Nelson views the LGBT issues as similar to the civil rights battle in the '60s, and he has hope that it will soon become a non-issue. "As humanity, we've come through so many problems from the beginning to here. I guess it finally had to come around to this," he explains. "This is just another situation, another problem. We'll work it out and move on... We'll look back and say it was crazy that we ever even argued about this."

The music icon, who has been long known for his views on other hot topics, continues to hold strong to his beliefs and his passion for music, with an upcoming highly anticipated album. He's also set to headline the upcoming Taste of Country Music Festival with his family band.
