The community of Victoria is by no means failing.  In fact, it’s just the opposite.  We are growing.  We are changing.  We are prospering.  But are we doing this together as a team?  Are we tackling our deficiencies as a community together? Are we building a community our children will want to come back to?  Or are we all doing things our own way hoping it will be great or make a difference?

Victoria has many strong organizations in our community which do wonderful and important work. However, there is limited coordination across many of these organizations to ensure alignment toward a common vision.  When an organization assumes a specific function or role, all their efforts and resources are consumed with that work.  Whether it's serving children and families, training workforce, providing culture or bringing in new business, every existing organization has a function.  In order to keep a community focused on a common vision with many goals and to communicate the effort toward that vision through consistent and measured results, we need an organization dedicated to that effort.

Victoria Alliance is that organization.  And they want your help.  They have hired a consultant that works with the community to teach a process for engaging community members for positive change.  This firm will lead our community through the process as well as help us set up metrics that will keep us focused toward our goal. This process from the beginning isn’t about creating a plan; it’s about creating change. Victoria Alliance focused on action and getting the people and structures in place to ensure progress and accountability. We don’t just want to dream big – we want to reach that dream, and how we get there is built into the process every step of the way.

Who is Victoria Alliance?  I am.  You are.  We all are.  Join their effort to create change by taking their survey.  Make plans to attend the four community forums and have your voice heard.  Visit www.victoriaalliance.org to take the survey before the end of the year and learn more about this great movement.  And mark your calendar for the first community forum which will be held on January 24, 2015 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Victoria College Student Center.  Or feel free to call the Launch Coordinator, Allyson Griffin, at 361-582-2520 or email her at allyson@victoriaalliance.org.
