A car is stolen in Texas every five and a half minutes. Having your vehicle’s VIN etched into its window glass will greatly reduce your chances of becoming a victim of vehicle theft. The Victoria Police Department will offer free VIN window etching at LifePonte Church (8150 Nursery Drive) on Saturday, May 24th from 9:00 a.m.-12 noon.

VIN Etching: Every vehicle is equipped with a Vehicle Identification Number plate on the dash board.  These plates are easily replaced with new, fake plates by auto thieves.  When the windows are etched with the VIN number a thief has to replace all the windows and dispose of the glass.  This will cost the thief time and money, so when the thief sees the etching he will move on to another vehicle. Etching may also increase the resale value of your vehicle and some insurances offer a discount (check with your insurance agent).

You will need to have a current driver’s license; automobile insurance and the registered owner must be present. VIN etching is also offered through the Crime Prevention Unit located in the Victoria Mall by appointment.

CHILD PRINT: The Victoria Civilian Police Academy Alumni will also be on hand to offer child fingerprinting services. The child print program was initiated with the purpose of maintaining identifying information for your child. If needed, the information can be provided to authorities to help in returning a missing child to their family. There is no fee for the service and all information is kept by the parent or guardian. For more information contact The Victoria Police Department Crime Prevention Unit at (361) 485-3808, or stop by the Office located in the Victoria Mall next to Chick-Fil-A.
