Now is a great time to start thinking about opening a business. Get tips on funding during the Main Street Program's annual Donor and Stakeholder Appreciation Soiree on March 6. Guest speaker Gary Lindner, CEO and president of PeopleFund, will get people thinking about business, said Sara Rodriguez, executive director of the program. The community will have a chance to get inside the mind of Lindner and learn alternative ways to fund business endeavors. "We would encourage business owners to come and hear what he has to offer," she told the Victoria Advocate.

The PeopleFund is a Texas-based nonprofit that creates economic opportunity and financial stability for business owners and potential entrepreneurs, according to its website. The group offers ways for people to open credit for people who don't usually get credit, Rodriguez said. In addition to the guest speaker, the event is open to the community and those interested in the progress of the Victoria Main Street Program. "It's a celebration of downtown," she said.

There will be taste of downtown offerings from area restaurants from The Sendera to Mumphord's Place Bar-B-Q and a silent auction with donated items from downtown businesses. "We wanted to keep everything local," Rodriguez said. Jake Truss will be the performer for the evening. "It's for anyone who has an interest or love of downtown," Rodriguez said.

Tickets are available at the Welder Center box office until the day of the event. For more information about the tickets, call the Welder Center box office at 361-570-8587.
