In a message from Jesse Mathis, committee chairman, St. Peter's Baptist Church, Victoria, to the Victoria Advocate;

At 6 p.m. Monday you are invited to join us in a celebration acknowledging Dr. Martin Luther King's 86th birthday at St. Peter's Baptist Church, 2708 S. Laurent St. Born Jan. 15, 1929, Dr. King is noted for his leadership during the Civil Rights Movement in the mid 1950s until his assassination on April 4, 1968.

We ask that you participate with us as we commemorate his contributions and continue to dedicate ourselves to the principles for which Dr. King stood. "Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable. ... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering and struggle - the tireless exertions and passionate concerns of dedicated individuals." - Martin Luther King

Special guests will be Mrs. Kathy Bell, teacher at Dudley Elementary School, along with several Dudley students. The theme of the program will be: Every note is a testimony. We are asking the community to join us at St. Peter's Baptist Church at 6 p.m. Monday to celebrate Dr. King's life, legacy and dreams.
