VC College and Career Expo Tuesday

The 2014 College and Career Expo will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in Victoria College's Health Sciences Center. The event allows high school students, parents and community members to meet area employers, explore career options and learn about VC programs leading to in-demand careers. The expo is free and open to the public. "The VC College and Career Expo is a wonderful opportunity for prospective students to really see how their education fits directly with the job they want once they have completed their program of study," Melissa Robinson, Pre-College Programs and Recruitment director, told the Victoria Advocate. "This expo will give students the chance to create lines of communication between programs of study and the jobs in our area. Many times, students will come to us knowing where they want to work but not sure what educational program they need to pursue."

During the expo, business and industry representatives will be available to talk about career opportunities, salaries and work schedules. Their booths will be located next to the relevant VC program tables. Students and their parents can explore VC's certificate and degree programs, workforce training, and transfer options during the Expo.

Business and industry partners taking part in the Expo include Alcoa, Formosa Plastics, Citizens Medical Center, DeTar Healthcare System, Infinity Maintenance Services, Invista, Warm Springs Specialty Hospital of Victoria, Victoria Police Department, D.E. Web Works, Gulf Bend Center, Regency Post-Acute Healthcare System, Twin Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. College personnel will also offer hands-on admissions, advising, financial aid assistance and scholarship information. Students seeking financial aid for the fall should bring their 2013 tax returns, a Social Security card and other documentation of income.

Tours of the VC campus will also be given. Student demonstrations of the arts will be available as well as representatives from the KEY Center, the Tutoring Center, the VC/UHV Library and others assisting in student success.
