News release from UHV---More than 450 students are scheduled to walk the stage and listen to a nationally recognized speaker Saturday during the University of Houston-Victoria’s spring commencement ceremonies. “Commencement is a time to honor students who have earned their degrees and look back on their achievements,” UHV Interim President Vic Morgan said. “I applaud these students for their hard work and dedication to reach their goals, and I wish them the best in the future.”

The ceremonies will be at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at Faith Family Church, 2002 E. Mockingbird Lane. The 9 a.m. ceremony will be for graduates of the schools of Arts & Sciences and Education, Health Professions & Human Development. The 1 p.m. ceremony will be for graduates of the schools of Business Administration and Nursing. Live streaming of the ceremonies can be seen at www.uhv.edu/graduation.

Belle Wheelan, president of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, will deliver the keynote address during both ceremonies. Wheelan has worked in higher education for 40 years in multiple roles including a faculty member, provost, college president, student services officer and secretary of education. In many of these offices, she was the first woman or African American to hold the position.
