Triple Murder Suspect Apprehended in Schulenburg

This is just scary. It just goes to show you never know who you’re dealing with or who is driving along beside you on the highway or even the street on which you live.

Area law enforcement officers arrested New York City triple homicide suspect Miguel Mejia-Ramos on Monday night as his cellphone alerted investigators where he was. “Investigators were ‘pinging’ the subject’s cellphone and had what they believed to be a fairly accurate location,” Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek said in a news release Tuesday. Mejia-Ramos, who identified himself to arresting officers as Alex Jiminez, was arrested by U.S. Marshals and local police on Interstate 10 near Schulenburg. He was arrested on a New York warrant in connection with the stabbing deaths of 21-year-old Deisy Garcia and her two daughters, ages 1 and 2, in their Brooklyn apartment, as reported by the Victoria Advocate. Mejia-Ramos is the children’s father. New York City Police told the Associated Press that the man was considered a suspect in the stabbings.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Greg Trojacek saw the vehicle on the roadway and, along with Fayette County deputies and Schulenburg Police Department officers, surrounded the vehicle and took the subject into custody without incident, according to the news release. The van that Mejia-Ramos was driving had been reported stolen.

As of Tuesday afternoon, New York detectives were en route to Fayette County, said Lt. David Beyer, sheriff’s office spokesman. Area law enforcement officers assisting in the arrest were Trojacek, Fayette County Deputy Sheriff Mark Zimmerman, Schulenburg Police Sgt. Billy Dunsworth and Schulenburg Police Officer Josh Lumsford, according to the news release.
