The month of March is Traumatic Brain Awareness. We asked Doriann Ramirez to share her story with us about her son Niko with me. She will be on KIXS 108  Monday morning talking about the awareness. Her son Niko was in a motorcycle accident. We hope by sharing his story we can save a life or help someone.

Doriann's goal is to spread awareness about TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURIES due to motorcycle accidents, atv, dirt bikes . As we know Niko had a fear of riding without his helmet. On this day out in the country  cruising at 30 miles an hour as Niko and friends riding motorcycles and 4 wheelers, Niko hit the back tire of the atv sending him in the air landing in a ditch where witness say the handlebars of bike landed on his head puncturing through his skull and brain. His thought I know where " I'm out in the country , cruising along , I'm not on the highway , no cars zooming around . I'm on a dirt road . I don't need my helmet." In that split second his decision was devastating. His helmet there at the scene on the back of the trunk of a car. Spring is here in the crossroads we have lots of country living and lots of fun. Our community has been stricken by many motorcycle accidents and if through Niko's story we can save a life then this journey makes it more understandable. If we can save a family from a total transformation of life due to TBI THEN THAT'S WHAT SHE WILL DO.

There is an event being held March 31 downtown at the Deleon plaza starting at 7 pm. The event is title Light up the Heavens for brain injury awareness. There will be speakers that have been stricken with such brain injuries from stroke, aneurysm, car accident, and motorcycle. All are area families who have lost and or going through life changes. Doriann will be one of those speakers.
