Tracy Lawrence Working on Duets Album With Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw and More
Fans of Tracy Lawrence are in for a special treat when he releases his next studio album: The country singer-songwriter’s next release will be a duets record, featuring some of his closest friends … who just so happen to be some of the biggest names in country music!
“I’m excited about this! It’s gonna be a fun project,” Lawrence tells The Boot, sharing some of the details about his first record in almost four years. “We’re doing a duets album of nine of my old hits and one new song, and I’m doing it with some of my friends in the business, like [Tim] McGraw and [Jason] Aldean and Justin Moore, Dustin Lynch, Easton Corbin, Chris Young, Kellie Pickler. I let all my friends pick their favorite Tracy Lawrence song …”
Although Lawrence is keeping quiet on who will be singing with him on each song, he does reveal that the project will include “a lot of the big corner pieces of my career.” Lawrence’s biggest hits came during what he considers the golden age of country music.
“I think some of the music from our era, from ’89 to ’96, was some of the best country music ever,” Lawrence says. “Like Ronnie Dunn and Mark Chesnutt and Joe Diffie and Clint Black. Most of the guys from that era, I’m still a fan of … I still think that music holds up really well, even 20 and 30 years later.”
Test Your ’90s Country Knowledge!
In 2017, Lawrence earned an ACM Awards nomination, in the National On-Air Personality of the Year category, for his radio show Honky Tonkin’ With Tracy Lawrence. The artist admits that interviewing his industry peers was a bit daunting in the beginning, but he’s grown to love hearing the stories of some of country music’s best-known voices.
“Reba [McEntire] was my second interview, and I was pretty stressed out about that one, but it’s gotten easier as we’ve gone along — I’ve gotten better at it,” Lawrence says. “I just try to think of it as two friends sitting down and having a conversation, and it’s been amazing, man … It’s just fascinating sit down and hear the stories in the lives of some of these guys. You know them in passing, but to really sit down and really get deep into their lives is pretty cool.”
