Like loose change when you’re desperate for money for a pack of cigarettes, the Wild Feathers are a pleasant surprise found between the folds of the country and rock genres. Their new song ‘Got It Wrong’ is dirtier than music produced by the slick Nashville machine, but still familiar for those looking for just a little respite from the same old, same old.

The alt-rocker is a love song from the perspective of someone who’s fighting a losing battle with the girl he’s trying to impress. The first verse is colorful, although vague: “Cut-throat sunset, Louisiana evening news / Sundown heartache and leaves stickin' to your shoes / I could be, I could be whatever you want / I could be, I could be whatever you want.”

There’s desperation in the singer’s voice by the time he gets to a shortened third verse: “Everybody's been alone and everybody's got a hometown / And if you never hear the phone, man, that's a lonely sound.”

But what will keep fans coming back is the pop-friendly chorus: “It's alright, baby / Don't believe what you hear / It's alright, baby / ’Cause I need you near / It's alright, you got it all wrong.”

Musically, the song leans toward Tom Petty, with less distinctive vocals. Acoustic guitar, thick pulls on a Telecaster (at least, it sounds like a Fender) and the howl of an organ make up the meat of the production, but all is just a frame for the story.

Why Fans Will Love It: The alt-country song is a twist on what fans of mainstream country are used to, but still familiar. The song's easy shuffle sounds good at loud volumes, while the lyrics still have depth.

Key Lyrics: "It's alright, baby / Don't believe what you hear / It's alright, baby / ’Cause I need you near / It's alright, you got it all wrong"

Did You Know?: Amongst Wild Feathers singer Ricky Young's most treasured possessions is a picture of him with Trigger, Willie Nelson's guitar. It made the rest of the band very jealous.
