An earthquake epicentered in Virginia occurred Tuesday afternoon, with people in Washington, DC, New York, Ohio, North Carolina, Massachusetts and Toronto reporting they felt the tremors, as well.

Reports thus far indicate the quake registered a 5.9 on the Richter scale.

A New York man now faces a whopping $50,000 bail after police said he tried to rob a convenience store of 99 cents.

Christopher Tisley, a 34-year-old Brooklyn resident, sauntered into the store at about 3 a.m. on Saturday with a gun and ordered the clerk to hand over the change, according to police.

UPI reports that New York-based couple Roger and Carolyn Mooyoung got the surprise of their life when they received a letter informing them that their Florida vacation home had been vandalized.

According to the letter, someone had spray painted a marriage proposal on their garage, to which the recipient, named Alison, responded to with a spray-painted "yes."

According to an article in this month's Vanity Fair, eccentric superstars Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando were in New York to see a concert performance by their good friend Michael Jackson when the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11 occurred. Fearing more terrorism, Jackson moved his entire entourage, which included Taylor and Brando, to New Jersey the day after the World Trade Center towers fell.

At that point, with all flights cancelled, Jackson rented a car and headed West with Taylor and Brando in tow.

A Brooklyn woman called to serve jury duty in the death penalty trial of New York city mob boss Vincent Basciano may not have been being entirely honest when she wrote in her jury questionnaire that the people she least admired were "African-Americans, Hispanics and Haitians," and that police officers are "lazy."

It isn't uncommon for potential jurors to put offensive statements in their questionnaire in hopes that will get them disqualified from the trial, and Juror 799 was removed from the Basciano case.
