Friday was a really big day for George Strait. The King of Country turned 60 on May 18, and we celebrated right along with him with a list of little-known facts about the singer. Find those in today’s Daily Roundup — plus, find out when to tune in to watch Scotty McCreery return ‘home’ next week.
George Strait has been a great country singer for a long, long time. Back in the 70s, he plyed a place in San Marcos called Cheatham Street Warehouse. If you would wash out a tuna fish can so they could use it for an ash tray, you could get in to see George and the Ace In The Hole Band. Even then, he was a really good country singer. Still is.
This week, George Strait‘s new song ‘Love’s Gonna Make it Alright’ became his 85th Top 10 single on the Billboard country song charts. The legend continues to distance himself from any modern country singer while he chases Eddy Arnold’s record of 92 Top 10 hits.
Congratulations are in order for the legendary George Strait, who is now a proud (and might we add very cool) grandpa! Strait’s songwriting son Bubba and his wife Tamara welcomed their first child into the world last Thursday, Feb. 2, as announced by the glowing Gramps from onstage in Phoenix, Ariz. last week. Local country radio station KMLE broke the news following Strait’s show Friday night.
There are big tours and then there are BIG tours. This should prove to be one of the biggest tours in country music history. Of course I'm talking about George Strait and Martina McBride's 2012 tour together. I do, however, see something in the schedule that I find a little strange. Take a look at the schedule and see if you know what I'm talking about.
In an earlier blog I made reference to George Strait and his phenomenal achievements in the field of country music. It just so happens that I ran across a little story about Martina McBride touring with George this year.
From the 'hometown boy does good' file... George Strait has done it again! I'm not sure who actually picks his material, but for a guy who doesn't write (well, he doesn't write very much, anyway), he's done really well during this era of the 'singer-songwriter'.
Kenny Chesney is helping pay tribute to some of Nashville’s finest with his CMA Songwriters Series, which brings a rotating cast of country stars — including Dierks Bentley, Ashton Shepherd, Brett James, Craig Wiseman, and more — to audiences around the country.
