Sugarland vocalist and newlywed Jennifer Nettles wrapped up a busy end of 2011, which included getting married as well as performing at Christmas specials and the Nobel Peace Prize concert, by appearing at the Kennedy Center Honors on Dec. 27. The performance saluted the one and only Neil Diamond. Nettles performed a flawless rendition of Diamond’s classic, torchy ballad ‘Hello Again.’

Nettles proudly represented the country genre, since the tribute to Diamond also featured performances by classic R&B singers Smokey Robinson and Lionel Richie, and up and comer Raphael Saadiq.

Wearing a shimmering black pantsuit, with a plunging neckline, Nettles cut a fashionable figure in her solo performance, which featured a sparkling cityscape in the background. During Nettles’ heartfelt performance, the camera panned to Diamond himself in the crowd, with a grin spread across his face. He certainly appeared to approve of the way that Nettles performed one of his signature songs.

Maybe Diamond will invite Nettles to duet with him in the future? They both have such unique and beautiful voices that it wouldn’t be the strangest thing in the world!
