Steve Martin has become a first-time dad at the age of 67... and is apparently wonderful at keeping a secret! The actor-turned-bluegrass-musician welcomed his first child in December 2012.

Martin's rep confirms to People that he and wife Anne Stringfield “are new parents and recently welcomed a child.”

“Steve’s very private,” a source says, according to Radar Online, explaining why the couple has been rather mum about the news. “They are thrilled. They worked hard to have the baby.”

Martin and Stringfield wed in 2007 after a three-year relationship. No word on the gender or name of the baby, but the bundle of joy is both the actor's first child and a first for the couple.

It looks as though Martin will stay extremely busy in 2013, juggling fatherhood and his budding bluegrass career. The banjo virtuoso has joined forces with folk-rock singer-songwriter Edie Brickell for their 'Love Will Come for You’ album, which is expected to be released on April 23.

"The banjo can be so evocative when it’s used sparingly, and that was in the back of my mind as we were writing,” Martin says of his contribution to the new project. “It’s the way I’ve longed to play and hear the banjo, rather than it being present at every moment. In these songs, the point is to tell the story and get out.”

The dynamic duo will tour with the Steep Canyon Rangers to promote the project, which was produced by Peter Asher. Guest appearances include Esperanza Spalding and Nickel Creek sibling bandmates Sara and Sean Watkins.
