Historic Schroeder Hall was put up for auction on Ebay at the beginning of the month. And now, the auction is over and the second oldest dance hall in Texas has a new owner.

Linda Krause, of Victoria, won the auction with a bid of just under $500,000. Krause told the Victoria Advocate that she used to go every Friday and Saturday night when she was dating her late husband, Bill Krause, who passed away 11 years ago.

Oddly enough, Krause said she used to talk with her husband about buying the hall if it ever went on sale. And now, she has.

Krause said that before the music can start back up again, Schroeder Hall will be remodeled to follow Americans with Disabilities Act regulations and make it compliant for those with handicaps. They will also update the sprinkler and fire system.

As for the music, Krause said she'd like to get bigger and better bands into the hall as well as setting aside days of the week where local bands can perform. She admittedly loves Country music but said she is open to all genres.

By the way, she is also looking for a commercial contractor to hire.

Long live Schroeder Hall!
