Anyone who knows anything about Reba McEntire understands one thing about the seemingly ubiquitous superstar: her schedule is jam packed. But McEntire’s biggest fans also know that the multi-dimensional talent always puts her family first. This weekend, McEntire will be making that loud and clear as she heads out to host the 47th annual ACM Awards with Blake Shelton. While everyone else is already in Las Vegas scrambling around in preparation for the show, McEntire will be in Birmingham, Ala. cheering on her son, Shelby Blackstock, as he races at Barber Motorsports Park.

Blackstock is an up-and-coming race car driver who will be hitting the track this weekend to compete for Roush Performance on GRAND-AM Racing’s Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge circuit. And the 22-year-old can rest assured that Mom (and Dad — Narvel Blackstock) will be there in the pits sporting their headsets and listening to the communication of the race team.

“His daddy and I are totally involved and were very supportive once we knew he had the passion to (race),” McEntire said in a press release. “I try to get to as many races as I can. As a matter of fact, I have started working the schedule of my concerts around Shelby’s race schedule.”

And a schedule like hers no tiny datebook to handle. In addition to hosting this year’s ACM Awards, McEntire is also headed out to Los Angeles in April to film the pilot for her upcoming new TV sitcom, ‘Malibu Country.’ Plus, she’s constantly making appearances on television shows and playing to mass crowds on her concert tour as well. Still, the fiery redhead makes an effort to put her duties as a mom before all of that. And her son seems to notice and appreciate being a priority.

“They (my parents) have been extremely helpful,” Shelby says. “Because of their experience, they both help me in learning how to relate to everyone around me and be a good person. It’s been great because it lets me just focus on driving.”
