The Victoria Radio Control Flyers will host an event in honor of National Model Aviation Day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 17 at the club field, 305 Hiller Road. This is also in support of the Academy of Model Aeronautics' mission to promote development of model aviation as a recognized sport and worthwhile recreation activity, says the Victoria Advocate.

The AMA serves as the official national body for model aviation in the United States. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the nonprofit organization Wounded Warrior Project and will support a full range of programs and services for this generation of injured veterans and their families.

The public is invited to attend and encouraged to donate to the Wounded Warrior Project. A $10 landing fee will be charged for the AMA pilots with all proceeds going to the WWP. Those attending should bring lawn chairs. Shaded picnic tables will be available for those wishing to bring a picnic lunch.

Flying exhibitions showing various aerobatic maneuvers will be held. Trainer aircraft with flight instructors will be available for those wishing to try their hand at the controls from a buddy box. There will be big planes, small planes, gas-powered and electric-powered planes, scale planes, sport planes and even a few weird planes.

Victoria Radio Control Flyers consists of about 30 members of all ages and RC flying experience. For more information, visit the website at victoriaradiocontrolflyers.org.
