Meet Billy Our Hero
Townsquare Media and RCR Homes, “Your Crossroads Builder”, would like to take a moment to say Thank You to all the Heroes Behind the Badge. We want to say Thank You to all the police officers, sheriff’s deputies, corrections officers, detectives, parole officers, probation officers, SWAT team members, traffic cops, police supervisors, law enforcement managers, fire fighters, EMS personnel and police chiefs.
This week we would like to feature Billy Bernard. He has been married to Kristi for 5 years and they have two children; Brynn (3) and Blair (1). Billy has a few nicknames but he told us it depends on who you are speaking with on his nickname. His best memory as a child was spending time with friends and family. He doesn't have a favorite artist or specific song, but he does like Texas Country. We asked him to tell us about his favorite concert which was Randy Rogers. He told us a few years ago he went to a Randy Rogers concert in Austin. Several friends and him had on stage access during the entire event and he was able to hangout with several musicians. His favorite local place to eat is Vera Cruz. His daughters love there rice and beans. He has a male boxer named Buck, which is the best dog ever he says. Billy has been in a police officer for eight years. We asked him what made him become an officer. He told us he wanted a career that would exciting, challenging, and changing from day to day. He enjoys helping people and was provided the chance to be hired by the Victoria Police Department; who then sent to the Victoria College Police Academy. He wants the public to know that he loves working for the Victoria Police Department. As a member of the department, he went from being a patrol officer to working for the Traffic Safety Unit. Billy was a member of the Traffic Unit for 3 years, where he investigated serious crashes involving injuries and fatalities. One month ago Billy was promoted to Sergeant and he is currently assigned as a Patrol Supervisor (sergeant). Thank you Billy for all you do for our community.
Here is what David Brogger had to tell us about Billy: Sgt. Bernard began his law enforcement career with the Victoria Police Department in 2008. While on Patrol, Sgt. Bernard was a Field Training Officer where he trained numerous successful officers. He has also been an active member of the SWAT Team where he is currently a Team Leader. Bernard was recently promoted to Sergeant and he now leads a platoon of Patrol Officers. Billy is a positive role model, not only for the department, but the community as well. He and his wife Kristi have two daughters who mean the world to him. Thank you Billy for all you do for our community.
