The Museum of the Coastal Bend will host a Volunteering Open House from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. The museum is located on VC's Main Campus, 2200 E. Red River St., in Victoria. The open house is an opportunity to discover what volunteering at the museum is all about, says the Victoria Advocate. Attendees are invited to check out a selection of hands-on activities as well as the permanent exhibit, Where Texas History Began.

Potential volunteers will learn about the museum's stories, how school field trips work and what kind of public programs are offered. Volunteers are especially needed for space exploration-themed school field trips. Ongoing activities, such as designing a model lunar lander, drawing a life-sized ship outline, and throwing spears with atlatls will give participants a taste of the interactive learning promoted at the museum. Light refreshments will be served.
