LeAnn Rimes was among the witnesses of a plane crash that resulted in one death and two serious injuries over the weekend. The accident happened on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 5) in Aspen, Colo. The private jet was carrying three people, including crew.

“So sad! Horrible plane crash we just saw happen at the Aspen airport,” Rimes tweeted. Comedian Kevin Nealon also sent out a message that indicated he witnessed the incident. Other passengers described the scene to KMGH-TV news in Denver. The small plane was a ball of fire as it landed and flipped.

As of Monday morning (Jan. 6), the airport was still closed, and the two survivors of the crash were in critical condition. Fifty-four-year-old co-pilot Sergio Emilio Carranza Brabata of Mexico was killed. A statement from the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Department indicates there is still fuel onboard the plane, making it very unstable. Passengers were bussed to Denver to continue their travels. Rimes indicated she got home to Los Angeles at about midnight local time.

“Counting our blessings even more so after seeing a tragedy & driving 7 hrs to Denver through tons of snow and traffic,” she said. “We are being watched over, that's for sure. The boys have been fantastic helpers. Eddie is a stud for getting us through a VERY crowded airport with ease."

She added, "Hope all the other travelers make it home safely and many prayers for the victims & their families of the #aspencrash in this heartbreaking time.”
