In honor of the 2012 ACM Awards festivities, the ‘Today’ Show has gone country this week. With scheduled appearances by Randy Travis, Lee Brice, Josh Turner and Kellie Pickler spread out throughout the remainder of the days leading up to April 1, Lauren Alaina took the ‘Today’ stage this morning (March 26) to perform her high-energy single ‘Georgia Peaches‘ for ‘Today’ Show hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford.

Before taking the stage for her rockin’ southern song, Alaina chatted for a bit with the two hosts. After introducing her album ‘Wildflower‘ and pointing out that it debuted at No.2 on Billboard’s Country Album chart, Gifford added encouragingly, “Congratulations, sweetie. That’s very unusual, and especially for someone as young as you are.” Kotb agreed, asking the young ‘Idol’ star, “What does it feel like to be 17 and on top of the charts?”

In her sweet, thick Georgian accent, Alaina admitted, “Well, it’s pretty cool I must say. I never expected it, you know. I grew up dreaming about it and then I tried out for ‘American Idol’ and all of a sudden, everything changed.” Looking every bit the classy Southern Belle, Alaina donned a leopard print frock on the show, cinched off with a thick black belt that showcased her new thin figure. With her blonde bangs swept to the side and her makeup just so, she definitely doesn’t look 17.

After talking for a bit with the hosts, the young singer took the stage with her band to perform her hit, ‘Georgia Peaches.’ Even though she brings every bit of grit and sass to the song that talks about short shorts and her girls back home, Alaina still smiles through every performance — the ‘Today’ show appearance included — making her seem even sweeter. But don’t be deceived by all that sweetness. This girl, who recently tracked background vocals for Aerosmith, is not afraid to rock.
