Kenny Rogers will come to the rescue of kids affected by Hurricane Sandy next week at his concert date in Englewood, NJ. Along with toymakers Fisher-Price and Mattel, the big-hearted singer has teamed with the Bergen Performing Arts Center and the Englewood Fire Department for a toy drive to collect Christmas toys for children in Bergen County, which was hit hard by the storm.

Rogers brings his 23-city Christmas and Hits Tour (with special guest Billy Dean) to the bergenPAC on Dec. 19. The singer has volunteered to personally match all monetary donations up to $10,000 to purchase toys for the drive. Fisher-Price has agreed to donate 200 toys, and Mattel is offering a special discount on toys purchased with monetary donations raised during the drive.

The Englewood Fire Department and bergenPAC representatives will be on hand at the concert to accept toys and monetary donations. The firefighters will also volunteer their time to deliver the toys to children in need prior to Christmas in conjunction with bergenPAC, a non-profit organization.

Rogers says that while he was watching the devastation on TV, he realized he already had a holiday concert date scheduled in the area. It occurred to him how many people had lost homes and businesses.

"What really breaks my heart, though, is to think of all the kids in the community without toys this Christmas. That should never happen," the singer states in a press release. "I realized there was something I could do about that when I come to perform in Englewood."

Rogers hopes that by matching all donations up to $10,000, together he and his audience can raise at least $20,000 to provide Christmas toys for the children of Englewood.

"We would also welcome anyone who comes out to our show to bring a new toy to donate to help make this Christmas a little brighter for many children," he continues. "I appreciate all of your help. I would like to thank bergenPAC and the Englewood Fire Department for all they are doing to make this a success, as well as Fisher-Price and Mattel. Have a Merry Christmas.”

Fans can donate to the toy drive by sending checks to the bergenPAC in advance. Also, monetary donations will be collected on the night of the concert. Additionally, new and unwrapped toys will be collected at the event. For more information, visit the venue's website here.
