Kellie Pickler to Release Pink Vinyl for Breast Cancer Awareness
Kellie Pickler has been a vocal supporter of breast cancer awareness and research, even shaving her head in solidarity with her friend Summer, who was diagnosed with the disease in 2012. Now, she is releasing her latest album, 'The Woman I Am,' on pink vinyl on Sept. 30, with proceeds going to Gilda's House, a community-centered home for those dealing with cancer, in memory of comedian Gilda Radner.
In the past, Pickler has participated in the annual Opry Goes Pink event, held every October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She has also released a pink iPhone case and will perform later this month at Eat. Drink. Party Pink., along with singer Amy Grant, to raise money for breast cancer awareness.
“Breast cancer really hit close to home for me when my ‘big sis,’ Summer, was diagnosed at such an early age,” Pickler explains of her involvement. “I’m happy to say she is now cancer-free. But, so many other women continue to have to fight this disease, and even more may not know they need to be aware of earlier detection than previously thought ... I want to help raise awareness so we can find a cure.”
