Despite all the turmoil that's going on in their lives right now, Joey + Rory Feek are having a Merry Christmas.

The couple have been in Joey's hometown of Alexandria, Ind. to stay with her family during what doctors have said will probably be the final stage of her battle with Stage 4 cancer. She has undergone extensive surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, but doctors have told the couple that there is nothing more they can do for her, and the couple recently made the decision to end her treatments. She is currently in hospice care.

But they're still finding joy in spending the Christmas season together, especially with the thoughtfulness and support of the people in Alexandria. In a new post to his blog, This Life I Live, Rory reveals that every time he goes into town to pick up a pizza, they refuse to let him pay, but during his most recent excursion they took their generosity one big step further, giving him 25 neatly-wrapped presents for he and Joey's 1-year-old daughter, Indiana, to open -- one a day between now and Christmas. Each of the presents is an individually-wrapped book for Joey to read to her daughter.

"So every morning is 'present time' for Indy," he writes. "She loves ripping open the paper and seeing what’s inside. And I think even more than that, she loves sitting on our laps while we read her new book to her. This morning, she got to open her December 4th gift… on her mama’s lap."

They have also moved from the farmhouse Joey grew up in to a bigger house where they can stop living out of suitcases, "another blessing from someone in the community who just wants to help." According to Rory, "Joey’s still feeling pretty good. Really good actually. We’ve been able to keep her pain under control for the most part and her spirit is just as positive as ever. Even more so here lately."

Even though it's not the situation they would have chosen, the family are making the best of a difficult situation.

"We have a Christmas tree and some decorations up and thanks to the nice folks at Pizza King, it’s starting to feel like Christmas," Rory writes. "And not just any Christmas — a very special Christmas — one that we’ll never forget."
