It’s Watermelon Thump Time In Luling

It's one of my favorite times of year. It's like a huge family reunion complete with your favorite foods and beverages. It's time for the Watermelon Thump in Luling!!

Every year it seems that "the Thump" (as the locals call it) gets bigger and better. It's a four-day celebration of everyone's favorite summer treat - watermelon. The festival includes a carnival, kiddie rides, food booths, arts and crafts booths, a beer garden, live entertainment, watermelon seed spitting contest, watermelon eating contest and more. It all takes place in downtown Luling, Texas, and it really is all about watermelon... Black Diamond watermelons, to be exact. The champion watermelon award is given to the largest Black Diamond watermelon grown according to the grower's association rules. The top entries in the Melon Contest are sold at auction. The Champion melon has brought between $400 and $22,500. Part of the proceeds from the auction support student scholarships.

But that's not all. The Watermelon Thump is known for great live entertainment, too. Here is a quick rundown of what to expect this year;

One $8 gate admission gives full access after 5 p.m. to all areas of the festival. Stay and enjoy the main stage acts, Mark McKinney and Casey Donahew Band, and more.

A $10 gate one admission gate charges includes grounds access plus all music, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Turnpike Troubadours, Kyle Park, Cody Canada and The Departed.
