Total sales of residential homes in the Victoria MLS for the same period was 889, 15.5% higher than the same period in 2011. Average home price for Victoria over the past 12 months is $135,000 up 5.3% from the same period in 2011. Total volume of sales was $137,070,405 compared to $112,132,445 up 22.2% from 2011. Active listings are 299 compared to 345 in 2011 down 13.3%. The average Days on Market for residential homes for the 12 months ending July, 2012 was 99, 24.4 percent shorter than the same period last year.

City Building Activity

The City of Victoria continues to see an increase in building activity. The month of August saw 5 new residential permits issued for Victoria with the past 11 month total at 89. The total permitted valuation for residential permits for the past 11 months was $15,798,300. There were 3 new commercial construction permits issued in Victoria for the month of August and in the past 11 months 31 permits were issued totaling $61,221,322.

University of Houston, Victoria Receives Recognition

The University of Houston-Victoria was the third fastest-growing public master's institution in the nation from 2000 to 2010, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education's 2012-2013 Almanac released Aug. 31. During the last decade, UHV total student population grew from 1,698 in fall 2000 to 4,095 in fall 2010, a growth rate of 141.2 percent. The percentage growth is the third highest of any U.S. public university offering undergraduate and graduate degrees. UHV has continued its swift growth this decade. Enrollment increased to 4,330 in fall 2011 and is expected to escalate again when official preliminary fall enrollment numbers are released in mid-September. Enrollment jumped 155 percent from fall 2000 to fall 2011.

City of Victoria Tax Rate Decrease

The proposed budget for the next fiscal year requests a drop in the City tax rate to 60.56 cents per $100 in property value. This is a 3.94 cents drop in the tax rate from this fiscal year. This tax rate approaches 1990 levels and reflects the current economic upturn in every sector of Victoria's economy. It should be noted that the City's tax rate has dropped by 9.44 cents since 2004.
